A group of graduate engineering students have adapted Microsoft’s new Kinect technology for surgical robotics. The method involves using the Kinect — an array of cameras and sensors that allow videogame users to control their Xbox 360s with their bodies — to give surgeons force feedback when using tools to perform robotic surgery.

Notre Dame Students Use Wii in Stroke Rehab

Students at the University of Notre Dame have taken the Wii system and applied it to rehab for stroke patients. Highlighting the growing use of video games, they have teamed with Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana to create a program that uses the Wii console, Wii Fit balance board, and a custom built program to monitor the balance of patients.

It is a unique online space to explore how game play can improve the lives of people with a range of different disabilities.


People with disabilities can play 1,000 different games for FREE that are designed to improve response time, scanning ability, short-term memory, concentration/focus, and coordination.


Community members can exchange ideas via IM, messaging, blog, photos, and video.
